Mayonnaise: Condiment that greet your buds right

The reference to mayonnaise “Mayonnaise de poulet” was made in 1804 by a traveler en route Paris. It is a testimony to the fact that mayonnaise has for centuries served the buds of mankind.

Mayonnaise is a condiment containing oil, egg yolks, vinegar or lemon juice and seasoning. It is smooth, creamy and thick in texture. Mayonnaise is also available in diverse variants and colors.

It might come as a surprise to you that you can make a jar of mayonnaise yourself. Making your mayonnaise gives you the choice to include the ingredients that suit you and to eliminate the ingredients you consider irrelevant.

Below are my ingredients of choice:

  • Egg yolks (1)
  • Lemon juice (4 teaspoons)
  • Vinegar (1 teaspoon)
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon salt.
  • Sunflower oil 250ml (use any other oil that suits you)
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard

Instruction:

Place all the ingredients in a bowl except the oil and carefully whisk together. While still whisking, add the oil slowing. The presence of the oil will make the mixture thick. When the slowly emerging oil is completely added to the mixture, your mayonnaise is ready.

Using a food processor can save you the stress of whisking.
